What It Measures
Free Chlorine
Chlorine is the sanitizer that kills bacteria, algae, and other unwanted guests in your pool.
Why it matters: It keeps water safe, clear, and actually swimmable.
Recommended level: 1–4 ppm (ideal sweet spot: ~2 ppm)
What poor levels can cause: Too low invites cloudy water and algae blooms; too high leads to eye irritation, harsh smell, and faded swimwear
pH
pH measures how acidic or basic your pool water is.
Why it matters: Affects comfort and chlorine effectiveness.
Recommended level: 7.2–7.6 (ideal ~7.4)
Poor levels: Low pH can sting and corrode. High pH makes water cloudy and reduces chlorine efficiency.
ORP
ORP measures the water’s ability to sanitize by tracking oxidation activity.
Why it matters: Reflects real-time sanitation performance.
Recommended level: 650–750 mV
Poor levels: Low ORP means weak sanitation. High ORP may irritate skin.
Temperature
Temperature measures how warm or cool your pool water is.
Why it matters: Impacts comfort, chlorine use, and algae growth.
Recommended level: 78–82°F
Poor levels: Too warm increases chlorine loss and algae growth. Too cold reduces comfort and slows chemical activity.
Intelligent Dosing Logic
How FinWhale Smart Chlorine Dispenser calculate chemical readings.
FinWhale contains four sensors to measure chlorine, pH, ORP and water temperature. It then analyzes these readings to understand current pool conditions and determine precisely how much chlorine is needed to maintain perfect balance.
Chlorine is dispensed automatically based on demand, not a fixed schedule or over time like traditional dispensers.

The Essentials of Water Care — Simplified.
Because clear water shouldn't require a chemistry degree.
The best chlorine system depends on how much control and visibility you want over your pool water.
Traditional floating dispensers and inline feeders release chlorine at fixed or manually adjusted rates, which can lead to inconsistent levels as conditions change.
Salt systems automate chlorine generation but are expensive and may not provide full insight into water balance.
Smart systems like FinWhale take a more adaptive approach by monitoring water conditions in real time and adjusting chlorine output accordingly. This helps maintain more consistent levels while giving pool owners and professionals better visibility into overall water health.
A smart chlorine dispenser like FinWhale™ automatically monitors your pool's water chemistry and dispenses the right amount of chlorine based on real-time sensor readings. Unlike traditional dispensers that release chlorine at a fixed rate, smart dispensers adapt to changing conditions.
FinWhale™ uses built-in sensors to continuously measure chlorine, pH, ORP, and water temperature. It calculates the ideal chlorine demand and automatically adjusts its dispenser valve to release chlorine tablets at precisely the right rate. All data syncs to the SunnyWhale app in real time.
FinWhale™ is designed for residential in-ground and above-ground pools up to 25,000 gallons. It works with standard 1 or 3-inch chlorine tablets and is compatible with salt water pools, vinyl liner, fiberglass, and concrete pools. No installation required — simply float it in your pool.
FinWhale™ features solar panels that continuously recharge the battery during daylight hours. With normal sunlight exposure, the device can operate indefinitely. In extended cloudy conditions, the built-in battery provides up to 4 weeks of backup power.
